2005-09-14, VIRGINIA SHOOTING SPORTS ASSOCIATION - The Virginia Shooting Sports Association, the Virginia NRA state affiliate announces its unanimous endorsement of Jerry Kilgore for Governor.Orange, VA (PRWEB) September 14, 2005 -- The Virginia Shooting Sports Association (VSSA) announced today the endorsement of former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore in the November 8, 2005 gubernatorial election.
“As a lifelong supporter of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, you understand that the Second Amendment has noting to do with hunting but in fact guarantees the God given right to protect our homes, families, and freedom,” stated VSSA President Steve Canale in the endorsement letter.
Canale continued, “You have proven to be a true leader and advocate for the rights of law-abiding gun owners throughout your career. As Secretary of Public Safety, you spearheaded Governor George Allen’s effort to reform Virginia’s concealed carry statute, making it possible for all law-abiding Virginians to carry a concealed handgun to protect themselves and their families. As Attorney General, you issued an opinion that led Governor Mark Warner to conclude that a regulation banning concealed firearms in state parks was in conflict with the Code of Virginia.”
Based on his steadfast support for the Second Amendment and a firm pledge to continue to protect and advance the rights of Virginia’s law abiding gun owners, Kilgore earned the unanimous endorsement of the VSSA Board of Directors. The Board’s strong endorsement confirms that Virginia gun owners have never had a clearer choice between two candidates. The endorsement will be communicated to all VSSA members.
“I ask all gun owners and sportsmen to stand up and be counted in this election. I urge you to contact the Kilgore campaign and volunteer your time, then on Election Day vote for Jerry Kilgore - the only candidate who has proven by his consistent actions to be a life-long friend of gun owners.“
The Virginia Shooting Sports Association is the state affiliate association of the National Rifle Association. VSSA works with the NRA and other like minded organizations to protect the Second Amendment rights of Virginians. VSSA is also responsible for promoting the development of junior shooting programs, conducting state level shooting championships, and selecting the "best of the best" of the youth and adult shooting community to represent Virginia in the individual and team competition at Camp Perry, Ohio.
